If your student must miss school, please email the main office the morning of his/her absence. When your student returns to school, they must bring a doctor’s note or parent letter explaining the absence to room 128. Students missing school for driver’s license testing, banking business, and other personal business will not be excused.

What if my child needs to leave school early?

For students under the age of 17, a parent or guardian must sign out and pick up their student at the front office. Students over the age of 17 may leave school with parent/guardian permission, but only after parents have provided the necessary documentation excusing that student from class (e.g., a medical appointment or court subpoena).

Do you enforce a dress code at BLA?

We hope every student at the Bronx Leadership Academy holds a deep sense of pride for who we are and what we stand for as a school community. To that aim, we require every student to wear a school uniform that includes a BLA-branded shirt, in the style of their choice, along with any bottom and shoe that does not violate the dress code or present a safety risk. This flexibility celebrates our scholar’s individuality and brings the school community together in a true “wolfpack.”

Any scholar who arrives at school out of uniform will be given a loaner uniform upon entry. In general, we do not allow the following articles of clothing:

  • Tops that expose undergarments (including undershirts) or midriff
  • Undershirts, du-rags, and bonnets
  • Ski masks
  • Tank tops
What is the cell phone policy at the Bronx Leadership Academy?

While cell phones can be a wonderful tool for safety and connection, they have also proven to be a distraction in the classroom. At BLA, we have partnered with YONDR to provide students with a safe, effective way to store cell phones and other small electronics while on campus, giving their time and attention to academic achievement while keeping their devices safe. Parents who need to get in touch with their student(s) during the day should call our front office at 718-299-4274.

How can I get more involved?

We strongly encourage your involvement and invite you to connect through our various parent-focused groups, including PTA and Parent University. Learn more at our Parent Corner.
